My daughter suggested I host
weddings to fund landscaping our
mountain property into the internationally
known Peace Gardens we want to
create as a family. Our rockery flower
beds are lovely in April, May and June.
We have beautiful views of 3 mountain ranges.
I have boxes of cutglass serving
dishes and am used to making sure
30 people are well fed and comfortable
with the children entertained and safe.
The Question became how to assemble
an attractive catering package which would
warrant charging enough to finance the
creation of 4 season mountain gardens
with every view delighting visitors.
A friend and I used her computer to
find out what other wedding caterers were
offering bridal couples and their guests.
We discovered that none of them offered
flowers for the bride, a wedding cake,
refreshments or favors. Children were
never mentioned nor were comfortable
chairs and convenient facilities.
Children are an important part of
families and bridal couples want to be
generous with their loved ones on their
special day. I thought I could develop
an attractive catering package with
something for everyone for a
reasonable price.
I asked my daughter,
daughter in law,
nieces, and cousins what was important
when they
planned their weddings and
receptions. Which traditional activities
did they keep and what activities are
currently popular? Do they want children
participating in their marriage ceremony?
What gifts and favors would
bridal couples
appreciate?
A fesibility study of Bonners Ferry
and Sandpoint stores revealed access to
bakeries, gift, bath, and flower shops,
Victorian wedding and scrapbook supplies,
a wide selection of Deli foods, Bert's Bees
samples, and lots of great children's gifts
and favors for reasonable prices. I can offer
this generous catering
package for a very
reasonable price and still have the resources
to complete landscaping our gardens after
hosting 100 weddings and receptions
over 10 years.
My husband
of 36 years and I choose
to live with alternative power, wood heat, and
hauled water in the mountain cabin
on 6 acres that we bought after our children
were grown so we can focus our time and
energy into expanding our
herb and flower
rockery gardens. We look forward
to building a modest, energy efficient, home
with a studio, craft room, wine cellar,
orchard and food garden.
Once our home is built and projects
like an oriental garden and an arched
conservatory centered in a reflecting pool
are landscaped, we will no longer need
the income from catering weddings.
Every bridal couple who celebrates
their wedding in our gardens will have
their names and marriage dates listed on
a Thank You plaque to be placed under
the wedding arch with pink and yellow
climbing roses planted on either side.
See your marriage ceremony in the
pictured spring gardens with your
reception utilizing the cutglass serving
dishes displayed among the
fall flower beds.
I invite bridal couples to consider
the whole catering package I am offering
them and up to 30 guests when they
consider where they want to get
married
and how they want their wedding and
reception catered.
I look forward to working with
bridal couples to cater a unique
wedding and reception for each that
will be remembered fondly through
their long and happy marriage.
IF I HAD A FLOWER
FOR EVERY THOUGHT OF YOU
MY GARDEN WOULD BLOOM FOREVER
