This page contains information that couples will want
to
have in order to make an informed decision about
having their wedding and reception catered during the
opening season of Klaniecki's Catered Weddings LLC.
I, Billie Jo Klaniecki, have taken
the pictures, researched
the information, composed the text, and typed every
word of this website.
It reflects the careful attention
to detail that I will employ when working with couples
to make sure
their marriage celebration is a unique
and satisfying experience.
Katka Peace Gardens
In the northern
Rocky Mountains, on Katka's
forested slopes, a garden is growing filled with the
peace of mountain meadows. Herbs, roses, and
perennials thrive in a mosaic of garden beds framed
by glacier rolled stones. Meadow flowers shelter on
a glacial landing facing the Selkirk Mountains.
Weddings will find an arched conservatory
resting over a still pool
reflecting a conifer hedge.
They will build a glass and steel tower to view all
the gardens
and surrounding mountain ranges.
Nooks and quiet places will connect
individual gardens. In a special spot climbing
roses will cover an arch framing a plaque thanking
each couple whoes marriage celebration made the
gardens bloom.
Creating gardens that would be enjoyed
long after our family was gone became our goal
as we collected, boxed, and moved bulbs, shrubs,
and perennials until we could settle somewhere and
put down roots.
We want the gardens independent of our
family, so Katka Peace Gardens will have legal
status and provisions for its maintenance.
Peaceful energy is so strong at this
mountain garden site
people comment on it
while enjoying the rockery flower beds. Our
flower's
home has become Katka Peace Gardens.
Wedding Season Blooming Sequence
Glacier rolled quartz, granite, and
composition rocks with
red shale stones from
folded in and seabeds, form borders for beds
of perennial flowers
and herbs, spring bulbs, and
sweet smelling shrubs and trees.
The wedding season begins in April
when Easter Hyacinth and masses of grape
hyacinths, and dwarf iris bloom with daffodil,
tulips, and clusters of violets. Woodland
hyacinths, johnny jump-ups, and mid-size iris
bloom most of May with bridal veil, lilacs, and
fruit trees. June features columbine, tall iris,
and peonies early and clusters of roses, poppies,
and love in the mist as the wedding season ends.
During
the wedding season, new foilage
brightens evergreen, lavenders, thymes, and
sedums,
while herbacous mints, geraniums, and
silvermound emerge. Northern grass and tiny
meadow flowers carpet the ground between the
stone bordered beds. Large pieces of river
driftwood have settled throughout the gardens.
When
blossoms fill the flowerbeds,
picture celebrating your marriage in this rockery
flower garden framed by forest and mountains.
Mountain Wildlife
There is no way to keep mountain
wildlife out
of the flower gardens.
To keep moose and herds
of deer
from munching sprouting bulbs, evergreen and
emerging herbacous perennials
in low flower
beds, we cover them with chick wire held up with
knotty driftwood.
Taller roses, shrubs and fruit
trees are in narrow beds encircled by upright
pig wire, inside
the stone border, to make
spaces too confined for nibblers.
Bears, cougars, skunks, and lots
of other critters live in our rural
neighborhood
but if you don't feed them, they won't visit.
Yellow jackets and deerflies
become a problem
for outdoor dinning and sweet-smelling people
in July.
During the wedding season,
swallows
and humming birds raise families in
the flowering shrubs surrounding the gardens.
Butterflies
and bumblebees tap necter filled
blossoms.
Growing mountain flower gardens
peacefully with indiginous wildlife means respecting
their needs and habits as neighbors.
Mountain Views
Katka Peace Gardens is ringed by
three
mountain ranges, the Percell, Cabinet, and
Selkirk mountains.
Katka is on the southern end of
the Percells and is seen
south of the gardens
with Clifty and Black mountains. Katka's foot-
hills rise
east and the rest of the Percells can be
seen rising north from the gardens.
The distant Cabinet mountain
range is clearly visible
southwest and seems to
link the Percell and Selkirk mountains.
The majestic Selkirk mountain
range stretches across the whole
western
horizon of the gardens and its silhouette
enhances views of the setting sun.
